Kitchens are not what they used to be...

Kitchens are not what they used to be...

Kitchens have changed a lot over the last 20-30 years. A room that was originally used as just for preparing food, has now become an open living area and the heart of the house. From entertaining to watching television, to a homework/studying space, the kitchen is used by the whole family. They have become more open plan and the lighting has been adapted to suit the new layouts.

Rather than using conventional down-lighter spot lights, island lighting and feature pendants are becoming more popular and more colourful. A kitchen light, as it was once termed, is no longer a kitchen light. You can now see in kitchens crystal chandeliers, spiral LED pendants and multiple grouped glass pendants.

Copper is now the new chrome, which is very much on trend and rise and fall pendants are as popular as ever. As a lighting retailer, we are now being asked for kitchen lighting in one form or another every day.

LED lighting has sparked a new wave in how your kitchen should be lit. Every light bulb has now changed to an LED alternative, and with good reason. LED’s consume only a fraction of the electricity, they don’t get hot, and they last for many years…What is there not to like?

So the next time you’re looking for a kitchen light, ask yourself…what is your kitchen going to be used for? Feel free to browse our full range of lighting here at Oberoi Brothers if you feel like your kitchen needs lighting up a little!
